Globally Intensive Courses

Global courses introduce students to the Scholars of Global Distinction program. They include inherently global courses with international content and those enhanced by instructors. Below are some that I took in order to complete the program.

Art Appreciation

This class broadened my global perspective by exposing me to diverse cultures, historical contexts, and artistic traditions from around the world. We studied different art movements, styles, & techniques. Which taught me how art reflects societal values, global events, and cultural exchanges.

Theatre Appreciation

With this class I explored the diverse traditions, styles, and histories of theatre from around the world. We studied plays, performances, and theatrical practices from various cultures, which gave me insight on how theatre reflects societal values, historical events, and global issues.

World Civilizations

This class deepened my global perspective by examining the histories, cultures, and achievements of major civilizations across different continents and time periods.

Principles of Biology

This class helped me expand my global perspective by exploring the interconnectedness of life on Earth. We studied topics like ecology, evolution, genetics, and biodiversity. Through these topics I learned how global ecosystems function and the importance of preserving biodiversity.

Writing & Researching in the Disciplines

In this class my global perspective enhanced by teaching me how to conduct research that draws on diverse sources and viewpoints from around the world. I learned how to approach topics with a broader and more inclusive mind.

Developmental Psychology

With this class I was able to explore how human development is influenced by both universal biological processes and diverse cultural contexts. I learned how psychological theories and developmental stages, like infancy, adolescence, and aging can vary across different cultures and societies.
