My Global Experience

For my global experience I went on a seven day cruise. I visited:

 The island of Grand turk

Amber Cove, Dominican Republic

&  Nassau, Bahamas

While I visited these places I wanted to focus on those cultural aspects that I hadn't thought about on a deeper level before.

One of those things was their crafts. Usually when you enter from a port you see vendors some have bracelets, necklaces, purses, hair accessories and so many more handmade pieces. This time I was intrigued on how they went about this process from acquiring the materials to finalizing the pieces.

While I was in Grand Turk I had been standing with my sister trying to reach the wifi in the Starbucks near us to call family. One of the ladies under the vendor area called me over and offered water because it was hot. She was super nice so I started conversation with her. I started asking her about her jewelry and the type of rock she used. The jewelry with the blue gem stones are actually Called Larimar. Which is Dominican Republics unique gemstone. She told me how they had mines over there. She would collect the gemstone, make her pieces and take them with her to sell it. I had recognized the rock but I never knew the name and where it actually came from. The pink pieces are actually from conk shells. Both pieces were beautiful.

You could truly see the passion in the ladies eyes, despite it being extremely hot she still had a smile on her face and a lovely tone as she was educating me on her craft. I learned so much more about the different places I visited but this one stuck with me the most!
